The Grace Gray Collection

Slide

About The Artist – Grace Gray

The artist grace Gray was my aunt.  Her teacher. Alleyene Hamilton, was also an artist of some renown.  I am fortunate  to have a few of her pieces.  Aunt Grace mostly painted china.  She had her own kilns and fired all of her pieces over the years.  She was also known as an art teacher in Shreveport, Louisiana for many years before retiring to our hometown in Oklahoma.

She was one of the artist who perfected soft, matching backgrounds in fired china which she accomplished by using silk scarves and cotton padding.  When painting china, it does not go on the color it turns out.  The color appears after the firing process.  It takes a mastery level to be able to predict the color and shade of each brushstroke.  One of her pieces was requested by The Smithsonian to be displayed.  She didn’t want to give it up.  I am lucky enough to own it now.  It is a ginger jar with yellow roses.

For the first time ever, I am making some of her collection available.  A few of the pieces will be going to Christie’s for auction.  Along with many individual items and small sets, I will be making available one of her large dinnerware sets for 16 with many serving pieces and extra pieces including tea and coffee service in a matching pink rose on light blue.

Now is the time to contact me with offers.  I also plan on the collections own website soon.  This is far nicer than a garage sale.  I can also be convinced to divide it into individual sets as part of the whole collection, so individuals can buy and add to the set of a wedding couples shower.
